In 2012, the body of John “The Badge” Roberts was found at his home in Winlaton. His family has no idea who killed him.

Jennifer Roberts, John’s mother, begged those who knew who killed him to say something so that John wouldn’t be killed again on the first anniversary of his death.

A finding led to one of the biggest murder cases in Tyneside’s history. Detectives have asked a killer what he thinks about what he did to finally solve a murder mystery.

John “The Badge” Roberts was a big fan of Newcastle United. On this day four years ago, his body was found in his Gateshead home. Top cop Lisa Theaker now says that the killer may have told friends or family about their secret.

Her comments come at the same time as a new request from police looking into the mystery death for help to find his killer.

What Did John the Badge Do?

On Sunday night, December 16, 2012, Winlaton police officers on watch saw that the door to the 32-year-old Park’s Terrace home was open, so they went to check it out. Later, they found his body.

The die-hard Newcastle United fan was found in his living room with serious head injuries. He had been there for a long time.

Northumbria Police officers started looking into a murder, and it has since become one of the biggest cases they have worked on.

After John died, his picture was shown to a big group of Newcastle United fans at St. James’ Park. Police were looking into the idea that the Toon Army might have the answer to who killed John.

John Roberts, who had one child, was last seen living on December 13, 2012, when he went to the Kandola Store near his home in Winlaton to buy cigarette papers.

On game days, he sold pin badges outside the Tyneside Irish Centre, which is close to St. James’ Park. This is how he got his nickname. But no one knows for sure what happened in the days after he left the shop and before his body was found.

What’s New with the John the Badge Case?

The officer in charge of the case is making a new call for information four years after his death, in the hopes that someone, somewhere, might have important information that could help find the people who killed him.

Northumbria Police Detective Chief Inspector Lisa Theaker says that the death of John Roberts is still being looked into, and it won’t be over until the killers are caught.

She also said that a lot has changed in the four years since John’s death, and the person who did it may be in a very different place now.

Detectives have also gone to more than 3,000 homes in the Winlaton area to find out more. Also, they did something unusual: they hired an actor to reenact John’s last known moves and filmed it.
